    Photography Sites

The first (and kind of obvious) place to check out when it comes to getting inspiration is photography sites. Just like design sites which you can also look for, photography sites are perfect for finding breathtaking imagery that can give you ideas for the type of logo you’re looking to get created.

    Some great photography sites include:

    • Practical Photography: This magazine was first founded in 1959 and then turned into a website. It has articles on photography and everything that goes along with it, but it also has tons of beautiful photographs too.
    • The Photo Argus: The Photo Argus is a photographic resource with beautiful images that will surely inspire you especially if your business is related to traveling.
    • Popular Photography: The best part about this website is its “photo of the day” along with all the photography tips and articles.

    Other Businesses

Having a logo designed for your business is not only about creating something that reflects what your company is about but also something that is relevant to your industry. One of the key stages of doing research for your logo is checking what your competitors are up to… and maybe even get some ideas from them.

Just remember not to copy whatever design you love. Being inspired is fine, but having exactly the same elements in your own logo is a big no-no. In addition to that, don’t make your design trendy. Once the trend goes, you will have to rebrand and nobody loves doing that.

    Design Blogs

Design blogs are actually not the same thing as design or photography sites. Most of the time, these are communities of engaged users that communicate with each other and exchange information. Of course, articles are still the main focus, but design blogs also have forums where photographers can register and interact with each other.

Some great design blogs you should check out are:

    • Design Week
    • The Logo Community
    • Creative Review
    • Abduzeedo
    • Logo Design Love

By the way, if you want to check out foreign design blogs but you don’t know the language, you can use an online translation service such as The Word Point to translate some blog posts for you. This way, you will have information from all kinds of sources.

    Instagram

Now we are getting to social media platforms and the first and most popular one you could use to get inspiration is Instagram. This platform is focused on visual posts with images, GIFs, videos, boomerangs, and so much more. It even has Stories and now IGTV, but that’s not the focus of our article.

In order to find the relevant pictures of getting ideas, follow these steps:

    1. Go to the Explore Page and search for your relevant tags.
    2. Browse through the posts you see.
    3. Create a folder in your Saved Posts with the images you like most.
    4. Return to the folder from time to time to get even more inspiration.

    Pinterest

While Instagram is great for many different things, Pinterest is literally all about looking for images. The main advantage of Pinterest is that it provides you with more opportunities for finding beautiful images than nearly any other such platform. There is even a reverse image search similar to the one Google has. Just remember not to get caught up by what already has been done before all we are doing is getting inspiration!

To use Pinterest for getting logo design ideas, follow these steps:

    1. Search for the topic you need.
    2. Find the images you like and pin them to a new board.
    3. After you click on the image, scroll down to find more similar ones.
    4. Visit your board later and click on “More Like This” to get even more relevant pictures.

    We Heart It

We Heart It has been compared to Pinterest thanks to its equally beautiful pictures. However, this platform is more focused on fashion and celebrities while Pinterest is home for nearly every topic you could think of. Besides, We Heart It now introduced the article publishing feature which now makes it more similar to Instagram or Facebook.

To use We Heart It, follow these steps:

    1. Search for the topic you need.
    2. Browse through the images and “heart” them.
    3. Add the ones you like to collections (similar to boards on Pinterest).
    4. Visit the collections later to get inspired.

    Tumblr

The last social media platform on this list, Tumblr can be just as effective in giving you inspiration once you figure out how to use it right. While it has many text posts, it can still be a great resource for finding images and GIFs for the topic you need. In addition to that, many users on Tumblr love making sets of pictures on a certain topic which can give you even more ideas.

In order to get inspired by Tumblr, follow these steps:

    1. Go to the Explore page.
    2. Search for the topic you need.
    3. Browse through the “Tagged” tab and find the images you like.

    Culture & Mythology

Culture and mythology can both be a great source of inspiration even if your business is not related to anything particularly creative. If you want to convey a certain message or use a metaphor, mythological characters and religious figures can be perfect for that.

For example, a company that transports heavy furniture can be called Hercules because of his strength. You can also have your logo with an illustration of Hercules on it.

    Fashion

Another place to get ideas from is fashion. The clothes we wear are constantly changing and the trends are becoming weirder every day. Just look at the Paris Fashion Week or Vogue’s Met Gala.

But even with all of its strange tendencies, fashion is a great source for inspiration. For example, the futuristic designs could give you ideas for a modern and elegant logo design that highlights your connection with technology and innovation.

    Nature & Human Body

Nature has been the best source of inspiration for humanity for centuries now. The helicopter was inspired by the way dragonfly functions and one of the most famous car models is after (and looks like) an insect – VW Beetle.

At the same time, the human body has inspired many to invent things too. Depending on what your company does, you may want to have an eye or another body part as an illustrated icon in your logo design.

    Everyday Life

Last but not least, look around you and find the details in your everyday life. What makes you wake up in the morning and smile to yourself? Why do you walk through the park and think about how relaxed and calm you feel?

Everyday things can give you different ideas for your logo design. If you are opening a barbershop, why not have your logo feature a mustache but in a unique way? If you want to sell clothes online, why have a dress silhouette illustration merged into typography in a unique way in your logotype? The possibilities are endless, and this is why you should invest in a professional logo designer as they will be able to take your initial ideas and create something unique and not within the norm.

    Final Thoughts

To sum up, all of these are definitely great for searching and discovering ideas that you can work with your logo designer to create something unique to you and your company. Don’t try and do a DIY job yourself it will cost you in the long run and won’t do your business any justice, take our advice and invest in yourself and your business, hire a professional!
